Martha Newport, Owner, Lead Agent
Broker/REALTOR®, PMP®, LEED Green Associate

After 15 years in Marketing and Project Management at IBM, Martha wanted to help people more directly in her community. With her love of home renovations, personal finance, and working with people, real estate seemed like a natural fit. After flipping a foreclosure (at a 24% profit!) Martha walked away from corporate life to focus on real estate full time. Now she can't imagine doing anything else!

Originally from Nova Scotia, Canada, Martha has been a resident of Chapel Hill/Carrboro for over 12 years. She has two children, and is in the loop on current school district assignments for both English and Dual-language programs, as well as proposals for future changes. She volunteers for PORCH, a grass-roots hunger relief organization whose mission is to collect and distribute food for families going hungry in the Chapel Hill and Carrboro community.

Shelby Bishop, Lead Buyers Agent

Shelby comes to real estate from a diverse professional background that includes over 13 years in the outdoor retail industry as an owner, manager, merchandiser, and buyer. Her passion for helping people navigate big decisions – and keeping them light and fun – owes as much to her retail background as it does to her early career experiences coordinating volunteers and athletes for Special Olympics, and as an art therapist working with adults with mental illness.

Originally from coastal South Carolina, Shelby moved to Carrboro in 2010 to be a part of a more welcoming community for LGBTQ families. She and her partner, Sunny, an art education professor at UNC-Greensboro, have a blended family of three children, two cats, and a black Lab mix. Their children attend Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools and as a family enjoy the arts, outdoor life, and the easy social atmosphere of downtown Carrboro.

As the team's lead buyer’s agent, customer service is Shelby’s number one priority. Her goal is to find the right property and help people discover what they really want.  With her tireless energy, creative spirit, and good humor, she will make buying a home as exciting and painless as possible.

Crystal Shores, Listing Coordinator

Since relocating from Vermont 11 years ago, Crystal has made this great state of NC her home. In 2014 she earned her real estate license, after 12 years of working in sales, marketing and management (including managing a popular bookstore chain.) Crystal has worked as a real estate broker both individually and on a team, so she has a deep knowledge of the buying and selling process.

Crystal will use all of those management and real estate skills to guide each client through the details of getting your house ready for market, and all the way through to a smooth closing. She is deeply committed to completing tasks the right way, with a high degree of quality, attention to detail, and with clear communication.

When not working to support the team and clients, Crystal loves spending time with her fiancé and step-child. Together with their dog Munchkin and cat Ivy, the whole family loves to watch movies and enjoy traveling as often as they can.

Tawnya Louder, Executive Assistant

As the executive assistant for the Martha Newport Realty Group, Tawnya ensures smooth transactions for our clients, working seamlessly in the background from contract to close. As a small business owner for the last 10 years, Tawnya is the definition of customer-centric. She also brings experience in operations, brand management, compliance, and contracts management to the team.

Hailing originally from South Dakota, Tawnya has made Chapel Hill her home for over 20 years. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her two boys, schlepping them to martial arts and sports, is an avid runner, loves biking, and serves on the school improvement team. Tawnya is also a current graduate student at Meredith in their Paralegal program. She is all about improvement, whether it be your contract to close process, or beating her latest race time.

Kaila Medina, Staging Associate

A transplant from Northern California, Kaila brings the “chill vibe” of the West Coast to our team. Having had the opportunity to work at several wineries in Sonoma County, including Francis Ford Coppola, Kaila understands the importance of offering quality service in an ever competitive market. If you ever need wine pairing advice, Kaila is your girl!

A lover of the arts, Kaila received her Bachelors of Arts in Art History from Sonoma State University. During her time there she also had the opportunity to study abroad for a year in Florence, Italy. Kaila has an eye for interior design and spends her downtime day dreaming at Home Goods, inhaling articles on ApartmentTherapy and being the voice of design insight to friends and family.

Kaila is lead in the staging process, transforming any home into a picture perfect art piece. Before that can get done, Kaila is also lead on any repairs or updates a home need to be market ready by creating a design plan, scheduling and working closely with contractors and managing the process.
